U3A Dunmunkle was formed on the 20th March, 2013. The name is from the old Dunmunkle Shire which incorporated the three towns prior to the amalgamation of local Government boundaries.
The Yarriambiack Shire found that people were looking for different opportunities and activities to aid them develop skills and interests to keep them active mentally and physically and to foster social connection.
The Shire applied to the Victorian Government Department of Health for support and received funding for their ILOP (Improving Liveability for Older People ) program. Victorian U3A Network especially through Harry Dobson (Development and Support Officer) helped develop and aided in the formation of our U3A. Public Meetings were held at Rupanyup and Murtoa where expressions of interest were canvassed.
An interim committee was formed and U3A Dunmunkle was up and running.
Initially classes are held in our Senior Citizens Club Rooms and other venues as indicated in the class list.
The Murtoa Neighbourhood House was considered to be the most suitable site for the main office. The Shire made available the Senior Citizen Club rooms with the consent of the Minyip, Murtoa and Rupanyup Senior Citizens.
Dunmunkle U3A acknowledges with gratitude the ongoing support of the Shire of Yarriambiack, the U3A Network Victoria and SLAAM Murtoa.
